One day in late January, 2025, the sun came out and it was good. My very best bud and I grabbed our cameras and hit the town. It was cold, but bearable.
We went to a part of town I know very well but haven’t had a chance to photograph much. The day brought a lot; great light, new spots, and people (my favourite subject). We made the most of the short-lived sunny afternoon, and here are some photos from that very good day.
Because of the amount of images, I’ve broken this post into two, it’s twice the fun for the same low price of free. Part one focuses on the Gottingen St. area in Halifax.
This time of year just hits different. There is something about the light in winter. Shapes are sharper and more defined in comparison to the same time of day in summer. It makes finding contrast easy.
When photographing people, I try to get close without being intrusive or obstructive. I want to use them to shape the composition as opposed to just having them be centred in the image. I just find this much more interesting to look at. When shooting street, what’s your approach to photographing people?
So as I mentioned, this is part one of two. In the next post, we trek up towards a busier area and boy, when it hits, it hits.
All images SOOC and shot with Fujifilm XT-30II & 35mm f1.4 or 18-55mm f2.8
Stay focused.
Good stuff, especially from one afternoon
I love all of them!!!! Especially the one with the pigeons leisurely chilling on the window seal, the one with the blue little building, and the shadow of the light pole on the building. Incredible work!!!!
