Great photo essay! I love how they all work together. - As for editing, it’s really about your vision. You’re the artist and you choose how you wish to show your images. It took me a long time to realize that editing isn’t cheating, it’s just another part of the process to get the image to look how I want it to look.

Oh thanks, Alicia! Yeah I agree, it’s a matter of preference, and it’s definitely not cheating. I go back and forth with edits and sometimes it just comes down to whether or not I have the time.

I absolutely love the two images with the water! 😍 I think the first image of this post is my favorite. It gives a great sense of scale and provokes a feeling about how big this world really is.

For my work I prefer the least amount of edits possible, and it’s one of the reasons I shoot film. Personally, I find the editing process tedious, and I don’t always know when to stop. I find I can select a film stock to help convey the mood or final image I want without much (if any) editing after scanning. When looking at other’s images, I prefer a lighter editing hand. I don’t like photos that look over the top or unrealistic, but I also think it’s heavily dependent on the scene and what the photographer is trying to convey.

Thanks, Adam! Appreciate that. Yeah living right near the ocean provides a good visual reminder of the scale of the earth, keeps me in check for sure.

Yep I totally agree with this approach. It’s a matter of preference but that over the top look just isn’t for me.

These are beautiful, they certainly have that filmic quality, Portra effect!

Oh thanks! That’s great to hear, I don’t have enough experience with Portra yet but the goal is to get myself enough real life examples to be able to draw from in my edits, but it’s what I was attempting here.

I need to start creating new comments that convey my love for your work. I love how raw and authentic they are. I think it’s in part to 1.) your eye for things 2.) your minimally edited aesthetic

I am personally drawn to photography that is raw and not over edited. In my own work, I rarely do anything in post. Mainly light and shadow type of edits but that’s it. 1.) I don’t want to take the time 🤣 2.) I love all things authentic.

Keep being you!!!!!

Aww, thanks buddy!! Yeah less time editing is key although I do like the process of it and some of my photos have really benefited from it, I’m definitely in the less is more camp these days, which is a big part of my draw towards film.
