Lucky F3
A day out with the club.
On a very nice day at the end of April, I got the Lucky Shot Photo Club together to go for a walk through Point Pleasant Park in the south end of Halifax. There were five of us there (out of a rotating crew of about 20+ other club members) this go-around, which by my definition, makes for a good time (fyi, literally any amount of folks on a photo walk is a good time).

I had recently purchased a new to me Nikon F3 HP. Did I need it? Nuh uh. Did I want it? You better ‘effin believe it. This one was on the ol’ wish list and I absolutely could not pass it up. So, I didn’t.
This walk doubled as a testing ground for the F3 - which I had bought from a trusted source I’ve dealt with before, all but ensuring I was gonna get some solid results. To that end, I absolutely got solid results and I could not be happier.
I slapped on a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 pancake and shot on Kodak Gold to really work that sun-kissed day to the maximum, and ensure consistent results. That said, I also scanned my negatives at f2.8 so there’s a real “look” to the scans, but I ain’t mad at it.
I’m happy to say the Lucky Shot Photo Club is going really well too! I’m proud of the little community and friendships that have developed; I think for a lot of us, it’s exactly what we needed.
The day’s session started with us all meeting up at the Point Pleasant Grocery where this old, gold Volkswagen Fox was parked; the perfect start to the day.

After everyone arrived at the meeting point and did some catching up, it was time to kick off and get ‘er going, stopping at all the old decommissioned and repurposed military relics along the way, like the old cannon bunkers that now serve as an outdoor theatre.

Point Pleasant Park is right along the south end shore of Halifax, looking out past the eastern shore and beyond to, I guess, Spain? Yeah let’s go with that. It’s a lovely park and one I don’t get to enough. I was sparing no film, ripping through frames at a good pace. I was bound and determined to finish this roll of Gold so I could get it off to dev, but in a place like this, it really wasn’t hard at all.
As we rounded the shore leading back towards Halifax, there’s a wide open space that looks out to Purcells Cove. Dog’s are out, people are sat on the benches along the water; it’s kinda perfect.
The walk ended at the main entrance to the park, which runs along the Halifax Shipyards. I love taking photos of the cranes and containers, real landmarks of the area and a spot where I’ve taken some of my favourite photos, including the ones below.
As with any roll of film I have loaded, the last shot is always reserved for our girl, Maisie - seen here with her new friend, Banana Greg (she names these things, not us).
Stay focused.

Holy heck bud. Those first three shots are for me. I love the vibes you're getting here, and it feels so wonderfully nostalgic. THANK YOU for reminding me to go do a big version of the car that is sitting on the campus over there. Maybe I'll get a chance to do that tonight.
I'm so glad you got this camera. It's a real nice thing and you deserved a real nice thing.
Some bangers in here buddy. I especially like the ones of the cranes and shipping containers.
